2003 Membership Newsletter
Dear SigEp Alumni,
For those of you who dont know me, my name is Brennan Egan and I am currently in my senior year at the University of Pittsburgh. I have been a proud brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon for the past 3 years and now look forward to becoming an alumnus next spring. I am also currently studying in the Naval ROTC program in order to become an Officer in the United States Navy. I will receive my commission in May and be deployed soon afterward. Since this is my final year as an undergraduate brother I want to make my senior year one to remember, a year I can look back on and smile. In the beginning of this semester I realized I could go about doing this in two ways, I could party my brains out and have as much fun as I can, or I could actually do some good in the world and help those who need help the most. So, in September I decided to join the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societys Team in Training.
The Team in Training Program raises money for those unfortunate enough to have contracted a blood related cancer. This money goes toward paying their bills, helping their families, and helping research so that future generations do not have to suffer through these diseases. The majority of the program is based around volunteers running marathons to raise this money. I have dedicated myself to run in the Walt Disney World Marathon (26.2 miles) this January. I have also set a goal of raising $3500 for the Society. Now I think it becomes obvious why I am writing all of you. As an undergraduate my finances are limited in the least (the Navy just doesnt pay its Midshipman what it use to). In any case I need your help for donations for this great cause. If you are interested in donating please respond to this e-mail, or contact me by phone so that I can send you a donation form. When you make your donation you will receive an official receipt of your donation from the Society. I am currently asking for a donations of $30 - $50, although any amount (greater hopefully) will help.
You may be asking yourself why I chose this charity out of the hundreds of thousands of charities that are available? Its very simple; my life has been affected greatly by Leukemia and Lymphoma. When I was in 8th grade, Joey Grubb, a family friend died of Leukemia after living with and battling the disease for 16 years. He was only a few years older then I was at the time and his death had a profound affect on me. Three months after Joey died his father also died from Leukemia. This tragedy threatened to rip the Grubb family apart, but they survived and through their strength I now gain motivation to live my life in the same fearless way that Joey lived his. Last year, my uncle a Vietnam Veteran died of hotchkins disease, a lymphatic cancer, this has only helped to drive on my determination to help. My father has also been diagnosed with cancer but has now been in full remission for over 4 years. This disease affects everyone; we all have known or know someone who suffers through it. This marathon is my way of honoring the memory of Joey his father, and my Uncle. It is also my way of thanking my dad for being so strong, for fighting the way he did. 26.2 miles is a small battle compared to the one these patients fight everyday in treatment and in life. I thank everyone who makes a donation in advance; your money is going to a good cause, as my father and the Grubb family would surely agree?
If you are interested in donating please contact me in one of the following ways. I can answer any questions you might have and can provide you with the proper forms and information for a donation. With your help and support I know I can reach my $3500 goal!

SigEp Works!
Several years ago, a few brothers decided to form a group that would bring together SigEp alumni in the area. The intention was to gather and share their fraternity experience. Today, that group is comprised of over four hundred members who lived and worked in New York. As our organization changes, so does our agenda. No longer do we function in a small capacity. However, like any organizations as it increases in size, it becomes more and more difficult to serve the needs of individual members. The function of the Steering Committee is to steer the group in the right direction. The committee comprises of an alumni board president, past district governors, a chapter counselor, alumni board members, as well as various other SigEp who volunteer their valuable time and efforts to this group. We strive to make everything we do beneficial to the group as a whole. Sometimes it may not be satisfactory to everyone, yet we are always open for suggestions!
Recently I had the pleasure of working with a few individuals in trying to put something together Unfortunately, without team efforts, this plan may never come through. I urge all who wants to see this organization further to pitch in whenever they can, so the ball can start rolling
On a similar note, I want to say thank you to Matt Fuoco for all he has done over the years with SigEp-NYC! Matt has left for a job at the University of Kansas. We wished him well and success!
Fraternally,
Steven
